Poor in Rochester: 4 programs working to bust poverty right now


Jobs — where they are, how many there are, how much they pay and how to get people into them — are at the core of anti-poverty work in the city.

What the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative is doing about jobs seems to dominate the discussion. It is overseeing a mentoring program in the city's northeast, and formed a work group to address barriers that keep people from jobs.

But RMAPI, now more than 2 years old, doesn't hold the patent on solutions.

Some of the answers are coming from people who've seen for themselves what it takes to get the city's unemployed poor into the workforce and keep them there.
