TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) PROGRAM - [Adults]

Happiness House is an approved provider of the New York State Department of Health Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid Waiver for individuals with traumatic brain injury. Other services available through the NYS TBI/HCBS Medicaid Waiver include: substance abuse programs, intensive behavioral programs, special medical equipment and supplies and transportation. The NYS Department of Health also provides rent subsidies and housing supports to individuals approved to participate in the NYS TBI/HCBS Medicaid Waiver.

The following programs and services are offered through the Happiness House Traumatic Brain Injury Program:

Service Coordination - This service assists the individual with accessing services and supports to meet their specific needs and desires. The service coordinator also acts as a liaison between various agencies and the individual.

Independent Living Skills Training & Development - This service is used to improve or maintain an individual's ability to live independently. The focus of this service is on activities of daily living such as cooking, grocery shopping and money management, as well as social, recreational and educational goals. This service is provided on a one-to-one basis in the individual's residence and in the community.

Structured Day Program - This program provides social, pre-vocational and recreational opportunities for individuals with traumatic brain injury. The focus of the program is on the development of social, cognitive and task oriented skills. This program is offered in a group setting five days a week.

Home & Community Support Services - These services assist the individual in maintaining their residence in the community through assistance with activities of daily living, companionship and supervision. These services are provided to complement independent living skills training.

Respite - This service provides short-term relief to the caregivers of individuals with traumatic brain injury and is usually provided in the individual's home.

Environmental Modifications - Physical adaptations are made to the individual's residence and primary vehicle, thus increasing the individual's independence and ability to integrate into the community. These adaptations help to ensure the individual's health, safety and welfare.
