Eagle Scout Applicant Gives Back to Happiness House
Today, November 12, 2009 at 1:30 pm, Robert J. Quinn Jr. presented his Eagle Scout Service Project at the Happiness House Canandaigua site, located at 5415 County Road 30 in Canandaigua. Quinn, age 23, has been a part of Troop #1 of Geneva, a troop dedicated to scouts with special needs, for the past 16 years. He has received services from Happiness House since he was 18 months old. Friends, family members, and representatives from the Boy Scouts of America were present for the ceremony, including Dave Bush, Troop 1 Boy Scout Commissioner; Robert Quinn Sr., Scout Master; Mary Walsh Boatfield, CEO of Happiness House; and William J. Castiglione, Executive Director of Ontario ARC. Bill Stobie & the students of the Flint BOCES Carpentry class, who assisted in the building of the flower boxes for the garden, were also present for the ceremony. With the help of many in his community, Quinn has put over 600 hours of hard work into the “Children’s Garden” project over the past year.
Completion of the “Children’s Garden” will fulfill one of the requirements necessary to obtain the Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout Rank has been earned by more than 1.7 million young men. The title of "Eagle Scout" is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle".
